Les Reader of Allensville, Ky., was among the special guests at the MDA Music Day benefit concert held in Springfield recently with friend and coordinator of the event, Dino Bradley.
Les Reader has written the words and music of two songs about Vietnam. His two songs are unique because "Baptism of Fire" deals with Vietnam, the firefights and the ambushes. His "Streets of Solid Gold" describes the troubles the Vietnam veteran faced when he came home from the war.
He speaks from experience as he was only 19 when he joined the Big Red One 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam. He was assigned as a teletype operator but spent his 12 months carrying a radio as a Radio Telephone Operator.
He appreciates what America is doing for the Vietnam veteran, building monuments and honoring their memory.
